The Logan County Commissioners’ meeting on Tuesday included the approval of an $800 funding request from the Logan County Lodging Tax Board to print new Overland Trail Museum brochure booklets.

Representing the Lodging Tax Board was Dave Conley.

A letter from museum curator Kay Rich to the commissioners said the last brochures were printed in 2008 and since that time the museum has added several attractions, including the Brickel Brothers Memorial Mural and the new High Plains Education Center.

Conley stated the brochures would be handed out a various hotels around Sterling, as well as the Visitors Center and the museum itself. The brochures are also distributed with packets from the Logan County Chamber of Commerce and are always available to any groups requesting them.

In her letter, Rich said she would like to explore ways to distribute the brochures to a wider audience in the future. She noted that at a recent conference she attended statistics were given that tourists visiting museums and other cultural attractions stay in the area 53 percent longer and spend an average of 36 percent more in the community they are visiting.

Signal Graphics printed the last brochure, which was a tri-fold, full-color brochure printed on very fine quality paper. The total bill for the custom printing was $681 for 5,000 brochures. In her letter Rich said Signal Graphics has indicated there would be a minimal price increase, with printing of the same number of brochure leaflet costing between $700 and $800.

Commissioner Debbie Zwirn asked who has the original design; Conley said Signal Graphics does. Zwirn then asked who will update the brochure tri fold, he said Rich would. There was discussion about whether three bids were needed, but since Signal Graphics already has the initial design and because it’s under $1,000, Zwirn said three bids were not needed.

In other business, the commissioners approved an agreement between Logan County and Justin J. Weber for use of the county right of way under C.R. 29.7 for a water line.
